Making the initial change from a meat eating diet to a vegetarian diet will require some getting used to. Some things that you might not realize you will no longer be able to eat. Such as cheese, milk, other dairy products and eggs. Your first though might be, 'this won't be hard' however, do you realize how much of these products are in other products you eat?

This doesn't mean you can't have your favorite foods just because they contain some of these products, instead you should find some alternatives to making the meals. For example, instead of making an omelet with eggs you can make a tofu omelet with the same fixings.

* Instead of drinking cows milk you should switch to almond milk, soy milk or even rice milk.
* If a recipe calls for butter or you are sautéing a meal you can use vegetable or canola oil, wine, veggie broth or non fat cooking sprays.
* Substitute cheese with either nutritional yeast flakes or soy cheese.
* Many stores carry egg substitutes or egg re-placers. They are usually made from potato starches. Another option for you is to use flaxseed and water to replace every egg that is needed for the recipe. You should use 1 tbsp. of flaxseed with 3 tbsps. Water per egg.

Following vegetarian diets for weight loss can be a beneficial lifestyle change for your overall health. It is important that you also include an exercise regimen into your diet plan for an even more drastic weight loss.

Potato Salad Recipes - How to Prepare Cold Dishes in the Chinese Vegetarian Cuisine

Before we come to the potato salad recipes, it is necessary to talk about potatoes first. Potatoes are one of the five big substance that human being live on. They are indispensable from the diets of both the East and the West.

In my opinion, potatoes are so popular on the dinning table because they can be cooked in various ways. They can be steamed, toasted, stir-fried and even made into salads. I made a challenge of living on potatoes for one whole week without repeating recipes. I found out that countless potato recipes are available if you really look into them. You can see a spot in the potato salad recipes that we are going to talk about below.

To make salads, the ingredients should be edible at first. That is why fruits are often used for salads. However, potatoes can not be eaten raw. So they have to be made edible in advance. There are two methods that can be used to do this in the Chinese cuisine - steaming and scalding.

In my opinion, steaming is the easiest way. All that we need to do is washing the potatoes clean, putting them into a steamer, placing the steamer on a pot containing some water and turning the heat on. However, scalding involves boiling some water, shredding the potatoes and straining the shreds.

After the potato is done, we need to cut the steamed potato into any shape that we like and then season them in order to complete the potato salad recipes. In this step, you can just rely on your preferences for tastes and flavors. I like such seasonings as soy sauce and soy bean paste.

All that is left now is blending the seasonings and potato shreds or dices together.

Top Taiwanese Recipes in Taiwan Cuisine

Taiwan, formerly known as Formosa, is an island country in the South China Sea. It is an archipelago surrounded by water, the Philippine Sea on the east, the South China Sea on the west, the East China Sea on the North and the Luzon Strait on the south. The archipelago is composed of Taiwan Island and much smaller islands such as Penghu Islands, Orchid Island, Green Island and Hsiao Liuchiu.

Taiwan today is an important trading and manufacturing hub. Due to its international connections, cuisines all over the world are found in the islands. However, due to geographical proximity and history, influences from Southern China and Japan are very evident in everyday Taiwanese recipes.

People from Taiwan and Southern China share a very similar cultural heritage, speak the same Hokien dialect and enjoy almost the same culinary recipes. Similar to Southern China, Taiwanese recipes derive their flavor from dried seafood, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, preserved vegetables and certain herbs such as cilantro and shallots. These ingredients are representative of the abundant resources from the surrounding seas and a vibrant agricultural sector.

Pork, chicken, rice, various seafood and soy are important proteins in many Taiwanese recipes. Beef is utilized to a certain extent but is not as popular due to older generations shunning it for religious reasons. The eating of beef in Buddhism is shunned as it is considered a sacred animal. The importance of agriculture in Taiwanese lives also value the hard work that cattle contribute to farm life.

It is rather ironic that one of the prominent Taiwanese recipes is one that of Beef Noodle Soup. There is a cult following of this dish and it is often featured in television shows and cooking contests. This dish is probably an offshoot of Japanese influence. Taiwan was under Japanese rule between 1895 and 1945. Even after ceding control of Taiwan, Japanese culture continues to play an important role in Taiwanese life due to the onslaught of Japanese enterprises and industries. Japanese culture continues to pervade modern Taiwan culture with many Japanese words for mother and father are embedded in Taiwanese language.

Buddhism is widely practiced in Taiwan. Due to its teachings, there is a large vegetarian community in Taiwan which shuns the killing and eating of animals including fish and seafood. As a result, the vegetarian variation for a lot of Taiwanese recipes is always available. A separate banquet selection for vegetarians is even provided for special occasions such as birthdays and weddings.

Another distinctive feature of Taiwanese cuisine is the presence of "Xiao Chi" literally meaning little snacks in Chinese. There is an extensive night market culture on the island of Taiwan. When night falls, small and big sections of streets in various towns turn into night markets selling all kinds of merchandise and snacks. These xiao chi are on the same line as Spanish tapas and Levantine meze but a lot more substantial. These snacks can range from the simple such as steamed buns and noodle soups to the unusual such as smelly tofu and oyster cakes.

One of the hardest things to do when coming on diet food is to find the tasty low carbohydrate meals. Vegetables are the best low carbohydrates food but putting in right ingredients to make a delicious low carb vegetarian meal can be a challenge. You can find many websites, magazines and articles sharing recipes for low carbohydrate vegetarian meals, but they usually don't tell you how to make your own. It's creative and fun to create your own meal adding your own ingredients. And to do that all, you would need is some help in making the right choice of ingredients.

Once you are done picking proteins, its time to choose your vegetables. Vegetables are one of the most important things to eat in any low carb diet. Peppers, cauliflower, lettuce, and broccoli are one of the many choices. Pepper offers an extensive range of flavors and works very well with all the vegetables. You can also use green chilies to add some spice and taste to your low carb vegetarian meal. These are easily available, and you can make a lot of different low carb vegetarian meals using your creativity.
